Cuvelier Los Andes is the new project of the Cuvelier family in Argentina that was started in 1999 as part of the Clos de los Siete Group. The idea is to create the Argentinean cousin of Chateau Léoville-Poyferré, a 2nd classified growth in St Julien (Bordeaux) that the Cuvelier family has owned since the early 1900’s.
Cuvelier Los Andes is a 70 hectares (170 acres) estate base in Valle de Uco, Mendoza, at the foothills of the Andes producing 2 ranges of premiums and super premiums red wines.
The top range wine is called Cuvelier Los Andes / Grand Vin. It was created in 2004 and earned a 94 rating from Robert Parker for the 2005 vintage. This is the flagship wine and the one we like to present as the Argentinean cousin of Léoville Poyferré.
Since 2005, Cuvelier Los Andes prouduces a 100% Malbec called Cuvelier Los Andes / Grand Malbec which earned a 95 rating from Robert Parker for the 2006 vintage. This is a very exclusive wine and is a selection of their very best and concentrated malbec lots.
The second range of wines is called “Colección”, This is the second label of the Grand Vin, and they make this the same way they work in their Bordeaux estates. They recently (2009 and 2010 vintages) enlarged that range with a Colección Malbec, a Colección Cabernet Sauvignon and a Colección Merlot… To great critical acclaim!
