Araujo Estate Wines

The Araujo Estate is located in northern Napa Valley, just east of Calistoga.  Its two primary components are the 38-acre Eisele Vineyard, and a winery and cave complex designed and built specifically to vinify only Eisele Vineyard grapes.

The Eisele Vineyard is one of the most respected Cabernet Sauvignon sites in the Napa Valley, equivalent to a premier cru Bordeaux. Benefitting from a perfect combination of warm days, cool nights and well-drained cobbly soils, the vineyard has become known for producing wines of distinctive character which exhibit a fine balance of power and nuance. The vineyard was established more than 120 years ago, and was first planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in 1964.  When Bart and Daphne Araujo acquired it in 1990, they began an extensive renovation of the existing buildings and created a new winery and caves.  In the vineyard, they refined the varietal mix and upgraded clone-rootstock combinations in an effort to realize the property’s potential for joining the international elite of limited production wine estates oriented exclusively to quality.

Araujo employs organic and Biodynamic practices in their farming and winemaking to reinforce the unique terroir in their wines, and ensure the health of the soil and vines now and for the future.  The Estate was CCOF certified organic in 1998 and Demeter Certified Biodynamic in 2005.

Through meticulous attention to detail in all factors influencing the ultimate quality of the wines, Araujo strives to produce singular wines of place, of the Eisele Vineyard.  Vintage after vintage, Araujo maintains its position as one of the most celebrated producers in American wine history.
