Ladera

Ladera Vineyards is the home of estate grown and produced Cabernet Sauvignon focused primarily on two designated wines, the Lone Canyon Vineyard Cabernet and the Howell Mountain Appellation Cabernet Sauvignon. Behind the fine wines is the historic 1886 restored and renovated stone winery and underground barrel caves. Ladera is fortunate to own two exceptional yet very different Napa Valley vineyards. Each gives its own variation of powerful, intense mountain fruit. Winemaking at Ladera is like being the parents of two extremely bright, talented, and dissimilar children.

Lone Canyon Vineyard

Does it take a dramatic and gorgeous landscape to produce a dramatic and gorgeous wine? Lone Canyon Vineyard is 480 acres of steep terrain on the flanks of Mt. Veeder, surrounding a box canyon reminiscent of cowboy roundups and outlaw hideaways. Most of this land is too steep and rugged to farm: just 75 acres are planted to vines, on slopes ranging from 5 to 30 percent. Of these, 92% are Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% are Syrah and 1% each are Malbec and Petit Verdot. But we believe that the other 405 acres also play their part in Ladera’s Lone Canyon wine: they are part of the climate and soil that produces our fruit, as well as a source of beauty and inspiration.

Howell Mountain Vineyard

Look northeast from the town of St Helena, and you’ll see the west facing slopes of Howell Mountain rising high above the Napa Valley floor along the eastern side of the Silverado Trail. Ladera’s Howell Mountain vineyard sits across the broad summit of a ridge of that mountain, and in spite of altitudes ranging from 1,600 to 1,800 feet, the terrain is rolling and gentle.
