The Genesis of the O’Shaughnessy Estate Winery occurred a decade ago when our family began a search for mountainside land with appropriate soils, exposure, and climate, capable of producing intense, full flavored Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. In 1996 after years of searching, we arrived on a parcel of land on Howell Mountain. The views were breathtaking; we looked out over mountain peaks, and valleys of green. We stepped out of our vehicle, knelt down, picked up a handful of red rocky soil, and our hearts said, “This is the land, pursue your dream here. Plant your vines: they will thrive on these south sloping hillsides.” We had reached our goal, the first of many milestones on our continuum to becoming a family winery.
Our Winemaking Philosophy
Our winemaking philosophy at O’Shaughnessy Estate winery is to produce wines that express the unique character of our Estate vineyards and their appellation. The winemaking style is contemporary, utilizing cutting edge fermentation equipment paired with natural, hands-on winemaking. Our emphasis is on balance; the concentrated nature of the grapes from our estate vineyards needs to be in balance with the flavors and aromas in order to produce
First vintage of Howell Mtn Cab was 2000 and first vintage for Mount Veeder cab was 2002.
